PED PACK REPORT
The ‘Ped(agogy) Pack’ is a community of practice of pedagogy enthusiasts working to improve foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
The Ped Pack Practitioners (PPPs) are a sub-group of the Ped Pack community of practice. They carried out a small-scale research project to gain deeper insights and perspectives on the enablers and barriers to adopting high-impact teaching strategies sustainably within their contexts.
The overarching research question was:
'How can we shift pedagogical practice and ensure that high impact teaching strategies (HITS) are used at scale by the median teacher through:
-
Balancing teacher autonomy with structured pedagogy;
-
Establishing positive teacher habits to transform the median teacher’s practice; and
-
Cost effective variations of coaching (or alternative approaches to coaching).'
The PPPs conducted semi-structured interviews with education stakeholders across different levels of the system. This report synthesises the findings across the different countries, pulling out the key themes that arose across the different contexts.
This report is based on research funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The findings and conclusions contained within are those of Better Purpose and do not necessarily reflect positions or policies of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
